Please let your elected members of parliament know what you think of battery cages!

Matters relating to laying hens and other farmed animals are covered by State and Territory legislation.  However, to be workable, a ban on the battery cage would need to be implemented by all State and Territory governments, not just one – this was demonstrated recently when the ACT put in place legislation to ban the battery cage but it was unable to be put into effect because of national competition legislation.

You’ll find the contact details of the Federal Minister for Agriculture as well as each of the relevant Ministerial contacts in each State and Territory below.  Please write to them and to your own State and Federal members of parliament, saying you find the practice of keeping hens in cages abhorrent and want it stopped.  Ask the Ministers to use the next meeting of the Primary Industries Ministerial Council to work toward a national phase-out.
