Mon 13 August - Brisbane Square Near Queen St Mall and the casino 10am - 4pm Tue 14 August - Brisbane Square Near Queen St Mall and the casino 10am - 4pm Tour Date Changes! Sorry to all the people who are waiting for us to make an appearance in your local area, but we’ve just made some changes to the final few weeks of our tour. The decision has been made to stop what we’re doing right now and head to Canberra because the ACT Legislative Assembly is about to vote on a bill to ban battery cages! For some of you, this may mean you will miss out on seeing the cages (this time); we’ll publish the new dates on the website soon. Did you just say the ACT is going to ban the battery cage?!?!? YES!! Well, we hope so! Basically, the Greens MLA Dr Deb Foskey has put forward an amendment to the Animal Welfare Act which would make it illegal to keep a hen in a battery cage for egg production. This is why on the invitation of the amazing people from Animal Liberation ACT we are headed south to lend them a little extra support in the week leading up to the final vote. The team down there have put years of effort and commitment into their Free Range Canberra campaign and really deserve a huge amount of praise. We need your help! Letters really go a long way in politics. We need EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU to write a letter to the Chief Minister and all the other Labor members in the ACT. It doesn’t have to be long, just tell them that you really want the cages banned and that it is great to see such forward thinking, not to mention good looking leaders are considering it (flattery goes a long way too). Remind them that the European Union is phasing cages out by 2012, and that several countries have already completed this process. It is especially critical that ACT voters show their support for this bill. Please also ask any ACT-based friends, relatives, mortal enemies, and even that girl or boy you picked up in ANU Bar the night you visited Canberra a decade ago to write to their MLAs to support Dr Foskey’s bill. This is their last opportunity to be heard on this topic before a decision is made.
